Quantum Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olsen strings
Quantum string theory is discussed in an Abelian Higgs model. In the limit of infinitely thin strings, this theory becomes the effective theory discussed by Polchinski and Strominger, in which there is no conformal anomaly. The complete string theory constructed here has no tachyons in the spectrum, so it actually exists in 4D space-time.© 7995 American Institute of Physics.
